Rheem, a leading manufacturer of air- and water-heating products, has been at the forefront of innovation since its founding in 1925.
The company has earned a reputation among contractors for performance, reliability, and sustainability, with a portfolio of over 50 brands.
Product Design and Hydronic Trends
Patrick McLaughlin, a Product Manager at Rheem, recently spoke about the challenge of complexity and the future of the hydronics market.
According to McLaughlin, Rheem’s product teams believe that high-efficiency and connectivity should enhance simplicity, not work against it, and they are working to achieve this through their products.
Products such as the Rheem FT Series and IBC boilers are designed to deliver advanced performance while remaining straightforward to install, commission, and service.

They handle complexity internally through intelligent controls and diagnostics, while presenting contractors with clear interfaces, logical menus, and meaningful fault information.
Installation Mistakes and Challenges
McLaughlin noted that most installation challenges stem from flawed system fundamentals rather than the equipment itself.
In boiler applications, issues related to improper system piping, venting, inadequate system flushing, or failure to maintain recommended water quality standards are common, and they can be mitigated with proper training and resources.
Rheem is investing in clearer documentation, digital tools, and extensive product-specific training for both the Rheem and IBC boiler platforms to address these issues.
For example, the IBC V-10 Portal provides secure remote access for monitoring and managing IBC boilers, allowing contractors to view real-time system performance, receive error and alert notifications, and diagnose issues remotely.

Market Trends and Feedback
McLaughlin expects high-efficiency hydronic heating to undergo rapid change over the next five years, driven by tightening energy regulations and increased focus on lifecycle operating costs.
Within the boiler market, there will be continued growth in condensing and modulating boilers, particularly flexible platforms that serve residential and light-commercial applications.
Contractors are seeking equipment that can adapt to a wide variety of applications, including hybrid systems and multi-boiler cascades.
Rheem’s commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction is evident in their products and services, and more information about them can be found on their website.
